Why Automation in the OR is Critical to Safe Medication Management

Wednesday, May 26, 2021

10:00 AM–11:00 AM PT | 1:00 PM–2:00 PM ET

The operating room is one of the most stressful and dynamic environments in healthcare.

While patient care is always the priority, it’s equally important that anesthesia and pharmacy departments are ensuring accountability in their medication management processes to avoid irreparable patient harm.

Many health systems today operate with large gaps in inventory visibility, failing to track critical processes like chain of custody and diversion management. Thankfully, technology can make the OR safer.

Join us on Wednesday, May 26 from 10:00 AM–11:00 AM PT | 1:00 PM–2:00 PM ET as Baptist Health’s Chief Pharmacy Officer Nilesh Desai, Baptist Health Floyd’s Director of Pharmacy M. Brandon McLain, and Children’s Hospital Colorado’s Chief Medical Information Officer and Anesthesiologist Patrick Guffey lead a lively discussion on the challenges of medication management in the OR and the benefits of automated dispensing cabinets in supporting clinician workflow.

  • Recognize current pain points within medication management across operating room and perioperative settings
  • Understand the benefits to pharmacy and anesthesia when adopting automated dispensing systems
  • Understand Anesthesia Closed-Loop functionality and the benefits it brings to both anesthesia providers and pharmacy
  • Identify the business drivers necessary to justify investments in anesthesia workstations
  • Determine your first step in the path to decisions on anesthesia workstations
