M. Brandon McLain
Director of Pharmacy at Baptist Health Floyd
M. Brandon McLain serves as the Director of Pharmacy at Baptist Health Floyd and is responsible for the growth and strategic planning of inpatient and outpatient pharmacy services. He also participates in System-level initiatives focused on systemization and strategic planning initiatives. Brandon spent the decade prior to his time at Baptist as a contract management employee at Pharmerica, Cardinal Health, and Comprehensive Pharmacy Services (CPS) in roles as both Director of Pharmacy and Clinical Coordinator. During Brandon’s time at Baptist Health Floyd, he has led several major projects, most notably converting their central automation (carousels, CPM, and CSM) and automated dispensing cabinets to Omnicell solutions, converting to a new electronic health record (EHR), expanding the residency program, launching a retail pharmacy and a new inpatient pharmacy, and converting wholesalers. These efforts have led to a complete renovation of pharmacy’s automation and operations and has enhanced efficiency and revenue generation.
Nilesh Desai
Nilesh Desai is the Chief Pharmacy Officer at Baptist Health. In this newly created role, he is responsible for pharmacy enterprise operations across the nine-hospital system, including oversight of the system’s ambulatory pharmacies. Nilesh spent 21 years with Hackensack University Medical Center/Hackensack Meridian Health in New Jersey as administrator of pharmacy and clinical operations. During his tenure, he led an effort to centralize and integrate all decision-making on technology, training, educational materials, formulary standardization, medication management policies, workflows, and Epic build and standardization across the network. He also expanded the clinical pharmacist team and the pharmacy residency program, and established Transitions of Care, Med to Beds, and PGY2 Emergency Medicine programs.
Dr. Patrick Guffey
Dr. Patrick Guffey is the Chief Medical Information Officer at Children's Hospital Colorado. In addition to this role, he also serves as a pediatric anesthesiologist, associate professor, and performance improvement and informatics director for the hospital's department of Anesthesiology. Patrick serves as the medical director and chair of the American Society of Anesthesiologist’s Patient Safety Organization, and is a former member of the Children’s Hospital Association’s Patient Safety Team. He is also the past president of the Colorado Chapter of HIMSS and the secretary of the Board for the Colorado Regional Health Information Exchange. Dr. Guffey has delivered over 50 national presentations on the topics of quality and safety, informatics, and anesthesiology operations, and has also written numerous scholarly articles and book chapters on these topics.
